Valentine’s Day at Versailles

This past Saturday was Valentine’s Day and what better way to celebrate la fête de Saint-Valentin than with gilded gold and frescoed ceilings. Yes, we went to the Palace of Versailles that was home to Kings Louis XIV, XV, XVI, and their families (including Marie Antoinette). Although it rained during the morning, la pluie eventually went away and we were able to enjoy les jardins surrounding the chateau. We also stumbled upon des cygnes [swans] in the Grand Canal. Quite picturesque.

Later, Mary and I walked through the town of Versailles to reach our train station and along our route stopped into a pâtisserie [pastry shop] for a Valentine’s Day treat!
